Job Overview
The New Jersey Judiciary is seeking a Graphic Designer to develop, coordinate, and design publications and web graphics. The role will involve working independently under the direction of the Court Executive 2b (Manager of Publications and Automated Forms Unit). The ideal candidate should be creative, detail-oriented, and possess strong problem-solving skills to handle design projects from concept to completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and layout brochures, pamphlets, reports, and other publications.
- Research and select appropriate stock photos.
- Create and update web graphics for daily site updates.
- Collaborate with content providers to develop graphic designs for print and digital media.
- Assist in photography production for use in publications and web content.
- Design exhibits and displays for special statewide events.
- Manage redesign projects for internal and external publications.
- Ensure all designs align with the Judiciary’s branding guidelines and ADA compliance.
- Stay updated on industry trends, particularly in government organizations’ design standards.
- Provide technical guidance to staff regarding graphic design processes for publications and the Judiciary website.
- Develop strategies to manage a fast-paced workload effectively.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Five years of professional experience in program development, coordination, analysis, administration, or research.
- Experience in graphic design, graphic arts, or digital illustration is essential.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver) and Microsoft Office.
- Familiarity with HTML software such as Acrobat, Word, and Publisher.

- Ability to work independently while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications and Substitutions
- Applicants without a bachelor’s degree may substitute additional professional experience on a year-for-year basis (30 semester hours equal one year of experience).
- An associate’s degree plus two years of professional experience can substitute for a bachelor’s degree.
- A master’s degree may be substituted for one year of experience.
- A law degree may be substituted for two years of experience.
Additional Information
- Work Hours: This position is temporary and limited to 944 hours per fiscal year.
- Physical Requirements: Some positions may require climbing, prolonged standing, stretching, bending, and reaching. Candidates must frequently lift and carry 30-50 pounds and, on occasion, materials up to 75 pounds.
- Driver’s License: If required to perform essential job duties, candidates must possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license.
- Authorization to Work: U.S. citizenship is not required, but candidates must be authorized to work in the United States per the Department of Homeland Security and USCIS regulations.
- Residency Requirement: Employees must establish New Jersey residency within one year of hiring per the New Jersey First Act (N.J.S.A. 52:14-7). Exemptions may be requested based on hardship or employer critical need.
- Background Check: Newly hired employees must undergo a thorough background check, including fingerprinting. All information will remain confidential except to inform the individual of findings and necessary actions.
