Key Responsibilities of Tax Manager:
- Manage and review U.S. federal and state tax returns for high-net-worth individuals, partnerships, corporations, and trusts.
- Provide expert tax advisory services, particularly in areas of expatriate tax, international tax planning, and cross-border compliance.
- Liaise with clients to develop strong, long-term relationships and serve as a primary contact for U.S. tax matters.
- Collaborate with internal UK teams to support dual-qualified clients and provide holistic tax strategies.
- Conduct technical tax research and provide clear summaries for internal teams and clients.
- Stay current on changes in U.S. tax law and advise clients on implications and compliance needs.
- Train and mentor junior staff and review their work for technical accuracy and professional presentation.
- Support business development initiatives, including identifying new client opportunities and contributing to proposals and presentations.
Candidate Profile:
To be successful in this role, you should be a confident communicator, client-focused, and have a strong technical background in U.S. tax law. You will need to be proactive, organized, and enjoy taking ownership of your work while collaborating with a wider international team.
Required Qualifications & Experience in Tax Manager:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in U.S. federal and state taxation.
- CPA, EA, JD, or other U.S. tax-related qualification is strongly preferred.
- Experience working in a public accounting firm or corporate tax department with exposure to international clients.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, IRS codes, and FATCA/FBAR compliance.
- Familiarity with expatriate taxation, foreign tax credits, and treaty analysis.
- Comfortable working with tax software such as GoSystem, CCH Axcess, or similar platforms.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred but Not Essential:
- Knowledge of UK tax systems and experience working with dual-qualified clients.
- Experience managing or mentoring junior team members.
- Exposure to international structuring, transfer pricing, or global mobility services.
- Project management experience in tax compliance or advisory settings.
