About the Senior PHP Engineer Role
As a Senior PHP Engineer, you’ll play a key role in the architecture, development, and maintenance of complex PHP-based applications. You’ll be responsible for writing clean, well-documented code, mentoring junior developers, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions. You’ll be encouraged to contribute your ideas, suggest improvements, and take ownership of your work.

Key Responsibilities of Senior PHP Engineer
- Design, develop, test, and maintain high-performance web applications using PHP (preferably Laravel or Symfony).
- Work with front-end developers to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and QA teams to ensure seamless project delivery.
- Review, debug, and refactor legacy code for performance and scalability.
- Design and implement APIs and third-party integrations.
- Maintain code quality through code reviews, unit testing, and best practices.
- Write technical documentation and contribute to internal knowledge sharing.
- Mentor junior developers and participate in regular team learning sessions.
- Continuously explore new technologies and propose ways to enhance existing systems.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including daily standups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
Skills and Experience of Senior PHP Engineer
Essential in Senior PHP Engineer:
- 5+ years of commercial PHP development experience.
- Deep understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) and design patterns.
- Experience with modern PHP frameworks like Laravel, Symfony, or similar.
- Solid experience with MySQL or other relational databases.
- Familiarity with RESTful API design and third-party API integration.
- Proficient with Git and version control workflows.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
- Ability to work independently and remotely with minimal supervision.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable in Senior PHP Engineer:
- Experience with front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Vue.js or React.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, DigitalOcean, or Azure.
- Exposure to Docker or containerized environments.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks (PHPUnit, Behat, etc.).
- Previous experience in a senior or team lead role.
