The Opportunity

We are seeking a talented and motivated Web Developer to join our team in support of our government client at the National Weather Service Pacific Region. This is a full-time remote position with an annual salary range of US$77,000–US$79,000, offering the chance to apply your technical expertise to projects that directly enhance operational efficiency and security for federal agencies.

In this role, you will lead the modernization and maintenance of internal web applications that support procurement and travel processes within the Pacific Region. You’ll collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing solutions that help streamline operations for one of the most critical federal organizations.


What You’ll Do

As a Web Developer at RCG, you will be responsible for a variety of impactful tasks, including:

  • Lead Development: Serve as the primary developer managing internal JavaScript/TypeScript applications that support procurement and travel systems across the Pacific Region.
  • Modernization Projects: Upgrade and refactor legacy ES5 JavaScript applications to ES12 and TypeScript, while integrating Svelte to enhance readability, maintainability, and performance.
  • Workflow Automation: Design and implement automated forms and workflows using Google Apps Script, including advanced features such as approval buttons tied to user sessions, all while navigating the complexities of federal email routing and legal requirements.
  • Cybersecurity & System Maintenance: Secure and maintain Linux-based weather stations using STIG-compliant cybersecurity standards on Apache HTTP Server, ensuring systems are modernized to align with Department of Defense (DoD) requirements.
  • Database Management: Update and maintain MariaDB databases supporting Honolulu-based weather servers, guaranteeing the reliability, integrity, and availability of critical data.
  • REST API Development: Collaborate with stakeholders to design, develop, and deploy scalable REST APIs that deliver actionable insights and improve federal operational efficiency.
  • Documentation & Support: Author SOPs, technical documentation, and reports, while managing support tickets to streamline processes and provide reliable client support.

What We’re Looking For

We’re searching for a highly skilled developer who is detail-oriented, proactive, and passionate about delivering high-quality solutions. The ideal candidate will bring a mix of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • 5+ years of experience developing and maintaining web applications using JavaScript and TypeScript.
  • Demonstrated ability to modernize legacy codebases while implementing clean coding practices.
  • Hands-on experience with Svelte or similar frameworks.
  • Proficiency in Google Apps Script and workflow automation.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux system administration, cybersecurity compliance (STIG or equivalent), and Apache server configuration.
  • Experience managing and optimizing relational databases such as MariaDB.
  • Familiarity with REST API design and deployment.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to write clear documentation and collaborate effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working with federal government clients.
  • Understanding of federal security requirements and complex email routing systems.
  • Knowledge of procurement or travel systems within a government environment.
