New Business Manager

The new Business Manager performs multiple roles on proposal teams and in overseeing pipeline management, bid capture, proposal development toward the achievement of divisional growth goals by collaborating with external clients, partners, and consultants, manages team members and builds staff capacity in proposal development. The manager contributes technical inputs and liaises with experts to coordinate technical inputs and review of proposals. They ensure adherence with company policies, applicable laws and regulations, and procurement or contract requirements.

Responsibilities:

Market Strategy Development and Pipeline Management

  • Supports budgeting, operating expense management, backlog target setting and performance tracking, and sales forecasting
  • Initiates and develops effective working relationships with clients, potential partners, counterparts, stakeholders, delivery partners, technical specialists, and donor agencies
  • Identifies and develops new business leads, clearly identifying Chemonics’ role in current international development assistance programs and trends
  • Tracks opportunities and manages information in corporate systems disseminating throughout bid teams and new business and divisional leadership
  • Externally promotes Chemonics by attending events, networking with clients, and displaying a clear understanding of the past and present portfolio and corporate history
  • Oversees management of new business consultants, including time sheet management and ensuring payments are processed for consultants

Technical

  • Actively engages in technical practice of relevance to areas of interest or focus, sharing information and best practices learned with the company, including connecting the practice and proposal efforts in support of enhanced competitiveness and technical leadership goals of the practice
  • Promotes Chemonics by attending external events, networking with clients and counterparts; articulating a solid understanding of Chemonics’ past and present portfolio; effectively representing the company’s history, values, and standards; and identifying and developing new business leads
  • Provides technical contributions in areas of expertise including but not limited to education, peace & stability, governance, economic growth, trade, agriculture, climate change, natural resources & sustainability, health, and social inclusion

New Business Development

  • · Supports new business efforts, including lead development and capture; serves in line roles of increasing complexity and leadership (e.g., proposal coordinator, expatriate/local recruiter, personnel/management/organizational capacity section writer, subs-liaison, commercial preparer, and technical writer)
  • · Contributes to the development of proposal strategies in collaboration with proposal leadership and director of new business to optimize profitability and win rate
  • · Screens potential delivery partners and makes engagement recommendations to the new business manager and/or director

Management and Leadership

  • Learns and promotes strategies for effective teamwork and leadership development and cultivates collaborative working relationships across the company
  • Supervises, mentors, develops, and evaluates assigned staff; provides regular performance feedback and the time and opportunity to grow professionally
  • Provides organizational, planning, and management support to outside facilitators; serves as facilitator for meetings such as new business training
  • Performs all tasks and responsibilities demonstrating behaviours consistent with Chemonics’ values and competencies appropriate for the position
  • · May contribute dedicated time to other work streams and functions to achieve BU goals, including operations, project management, and technical practice contributions
  • May provide technical and/or operational support via short-term assignments to projects within and external to the BU in areas of expertise including but not limited to start-up/close-out, operations, MEL, and grants management.

UK Qualifications

  •  Degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience required; advanced degree preferred
  • Demonstrated business development experience including proposal preparation, ensuring contractual compliance, staff supervisory and mentorship, and knowledge of the client experience required
  • Experience supervising or mentoring employees preferred
  • Thorough understanding of client requirements and preferred methods of business
  • Fluency in administrative, accounting, and management systems with demonstrated experience mentoring staff in these areas
  • Demonstrated experience writing proposal or report sections or similar
  • Demonstrated experience following standard practices and procedures, receiving general instruction on work progress, and making significant contribution to end results
  • Works independently and as part of a team
