Seeking Temporary Social Media Help: Maintaining Privacy While Building a Digital Marketing Presence
After 25 years of working full-time as an Executive Assistant in a demanding and stressful role, I’ve decided to pursue a new path—digital marketing—as a way to supplement my income now and into retirement. This is a fresh start for me, and while I’m excited to learn something new, I am also navigating some real challenges, especially related to privacy and online exposure.
I’m brand new to using social media professionally, and although I’ve had a personal Facebook account for the past 8 years, it was only used occasionally—mostly during COVID to watch church services and browse Facebook Marketplace. Now, as part of my journey into digital marketing, I’ve created several business social media accounts across platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Pinterest.
I need temporary, budget-friendly support to help me feel confident using these platforms. My biggest concern is protecting my identity and keeping my new digital marketing business separate from my personal and professional life—especially from my current employer and family/friends who may unintentionally connect the dots.
If my employer were to discover that I’m involved in a digital marketing opportunity, it could negatively affect my already stressful work life—or worse, get me fired. So, I need help tweaking or re-creating my accounts to stay under the radar, while still growing my online visibility in the digital marketing space.
🔐 Goals & Privacy Concerns
I want my business social accounts to be public so I can build a following and attract potential customers. However, I also need to ensure that friends, family, and coworkers can’t easily find or identify me. I’d like help with:
- Changing usernames and display names to something neutral or brand-based, instead of using my real name.
- Updating profile pictures, bios, and linked information to avoid personal identifiers.
- Managing privacy settings smartly—e.g., turning off suggestions or contacts syncing.
🧩 Platform-Specific Support I Need
1. Facebook
- I currently have a personal Facebook account used for casual activity.
- Should I create a separate Facebook Business Page or a new profile altogether?
- I want to post a few impactful, scroll-stopping videos to promote the digital marketing program I’m a part of.
- I need help understanding how to reach viewers organically and through Facebook Reels or groups without compromising my privacy.
2. Instagram
- I created this account in March 2025, but I used my real name, so friends/family are starting to follow me.
- I’d like help renaming this account, updating the bio and username so I appear as a brand or business rather than an individual.
- I also need guidance on how to post attractive, short videos or Reels that will capture attention and convert viewers into buyers.
- How do I use hashtags properly on Instagram to maximize visibility without drawing the wrong kind of attention?
3. TikTok
- TikTok was also created in March 2025, but I haven’t posted anything yet.
- I’m completely new to this platform and need simple, beginner-level instructions for:
- Creating my first few eye-catching, educational, or motivational videos
- Editing within TikTok or using free apps to enhance video quality
- Choosing the right hooks, text overlays, and music to attract the right audience
- I’d love ideas for short-form video content that can promote my digital marketing product or program.
4. YouTube
- I created a business YouTube channel but haven’t posted anything yet.
- I know YouTube can be powerful for long-term content, but I need help getting started:
- How to make simple, high-value videos that don’t require advanced editing
- Understanding thumbnails, titles, and descriptions that get clicks
- Best practices for keeping my identity private while being authentic
5. Pinterest
- I’ve created the account, but I don’t know where to begin with video or image content.
- I need help with:
- What kind of Pins or short videos attract attention in the digital marketing niche
- Using Pinterest to drive traffic to a sales page or landing page
- Creating boards that are helpful but not too revealing of my personal life
🎯 Hashtag Strategy Help
I’ve started brainstorming and creating hashtags related to my niche, but I’m not sure how to use them effectively. I want to learn:
- How many hashtags to use per platform (e.g., 3 on YouTube vs. 30 on Instagram)
- How to mix niche-specific, trending, and general hashtags
- If I should create a custom hashtag for my brand or product
🛠 What I’m Looking For (Support Needed)
- Short-term, beginner-friendly help to:
- Adjust account settings and usernames for privacy
- Post my first few high-quality videos (with hooks, captions, music)
- Understand each platform’s basics for audience reach
- Video topic ideas tailored to digital marketing, beginners, side hustles, or “how I started” stories
- Low-cost or free tools for editing, scheduling posts, and designing thumbnails or Pinterest Pins
🧘♀️ Final Thoughts
This is a big leap for me after decades in a completely different profession. I’m motivated to learn and grow, but I’m also overwhelmed by the technical side of things and the need to stay under the radar. If I can get support setting up my accounts and posting my first few impactful videos, I believe I’ll gain the confidence to continue on my own.
If you’re a coach, freelancer, or consultant who specializes in social media setup for beginners—or if you can guide me through this on a tight budget—I’d love to hear from you. I’m just looking for a safe, private, and practical way to share my new venture without risking my current employment.
