About FPGA Engineer

As an FPGA Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, development, verification, and implementation of complex digital circuits using FPGAs. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams of software engineers, systems engineers, and hardware designers to deliver reliable and efficient hardware solutions.
Key Responsibilities of FPGA Engineer
- Design, implement, and test FPGA-based systems using VHDL or Verilog.
- Develop simulation test benches and conduct functional and timing simulations.
- Work with high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, DDR, Ethernet, and other FPGA I/Os.
- Perform synthesis, place & route, and timing analysis using vendor tools (e.g., Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus).
- Integrate FPGA designs into broader systems, collaborating with software and hardware engineers.
- Generate and maintain design documentation including architecture specifications, test plans, and timing reports.
- Support bring-up, debugging, and validation of FPGA designs on hardware platforms.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to system architecture decisions.
- Stay updated on the latest FPGA technologies and development practices.
Key Requirements of FPGA Engineer
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with FPGA development.
- Proficient in VHDL or Verilog HDL for RTL design.
- Strong experience with FPGA toolchains from Xilinx, Intel (Altera), or Lattice.
- Solid understanding of digital design principles, timing analysis, and clock domain crossing.
- Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python, TCL, or Bash for automation.
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams and datasheets.
- Excellent debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable Skills (Bonus Points) of FPGA Engineer
- Experience with embedded C or software integration.
- Familiarity with system-level design tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink).
- Experience working with SoC platforms (e.g., Zynq, Stratix 10).
- Knowledge of Linux device drivers or real-time operating systems (RTOS).
- Exposure to AI/ML hardware acceleration or signal processing applications.
