Job Description: Business Development Associate – International Development (UK)

Overview

Cadmus is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Business Development Associate to join our Business Development (BD) team in the UK office, part of Cadmus’ International Development Division. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in driving our business growth by leading capture efforts for new opportunities, managing live proposals, and overseeing a robust pipeline of business opportunities with key bilateral and multilateral clients. These include the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), the World Bank, and the European Union.

The Business Development Associate will guide proposal teams through established business development processes and procedures, ensuring adherence to Cadmus’ best practices. They will assign and coordinate technical and administrative tasks to meet deadlines, collaborate with internal and external subject matter experts, and represent the company to external stakeholders, including clients and partners. This role reports directly to the Head of Business Development.

Responsibilities of Business Development Associate

The Business Development Associate will:

  1. Lead Proposal Development
    • Independently manage and support the preparation of bid proposals, including administrative, technical, and commercial sections.
    • Act as proposal manager for live bids, ensuring timely and high-quality submissions.
  2. Strategic Opportunity Analysis
    • Conduct in-depth research on issues, countries, clients, partners, and competitors to identify strategic business opportunities.
    • Provide actionable insights to inform decision-making and enhance competitive positioning.
  3. Market Intelligence Gathering
    • Monitor and analyze market trends through desk-based research, business networks, and active participation in industry events, workshops, and seminars.
  4. Partnership Management
    • Scope, build, and maintain strong operational partnerships with key stakeholders.
    • Negotiate and finalize contracts with partners and consultants for bids.
  5. Pipeline Development
    • Track and assess new project opportunities, proactively contributing to marketing efforts to maintain a pipeline of high-quality opportunities.
  6. Capture Missions
    • Undertake scoping and capture missions to target countries to gather on-the-ground insights and build relationships with stakeholders.
  7. Budget and Tender Preparation
    • Research costs and prepare detailed budgets and commercial tenders for proposals.
  8. Framework Co-Management
    • Support the management of frameworks where Cadmus participates, ensuring compliance and efficiency.

Qualifications of Business Development Associate

Required in Business Development Associate:

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience, preferably with donor-funded projects in the Global South.
  • University degree or equivalent years of work experience.
  • Proven track record in managing large, complex proposals for bilateral and multilateral donors.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of procurement and bidding processes for clients such as FCDO, the World Bank, and the European Union.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to synthesize large volumes of information.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and deliver results under tight deadlines.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Word and Excel for document preparation and formatting.
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel internationally.
  • Ability to work independently and lead multicultural teams effectively.

Preferred in Business Development Associate:

  • Experience in bidding for FCDO-funded projects.
  • Familiarity with one or more of Cadmus’ key technical areas: private sector development, finance and investment, trade and logistics, economic policy and governance, climate and resilience, digital transformation, women’s economic empowerment, and monitoring and evaluation.
