Job Description: Join our team as an Assistant Editor for Pnyx: Journal of Classical Studies! As part of an international network of colleagues, you will have the opportunity to organise and participate in academic and outreach activities. The role offers flexibility in communication and workload to accommodate collaborators from different time zones. The workload varies depending on the period and your level of involvement, making it suitable for those with other responsibilities. As Assistant Editor, you will oversee the editorial process for our journal and other publications, ensuring high-quality content and engaging with the Classical Studies community (broadly refined). You will oversee the editorial process for our journal, Pnyx: Journal of Classical Studies, and other publications. Your responsibilities include: • Managing the peer-review process and ensuring the quality of published articles. • Collaborating with authors to develop their ideas and research. • Working closely with our team of editors and reviewers to maintain high editorial standards. • Promoting the journal and expanding its reach to a global audience. • (Optional) Teaching tailored courses (online and/or in-person). The position comes with a standard six-month probationary period, during which the successful candidate will have the opportunity to adapt to the role, become familiar with the workload, and integrate into the team. This period allows both the employee and Isegoria to assess the fit and suitability for the position. Qualifications Required • A PhD in Classical Studies (broadly defined) or related fields. • Strong editorial skills and attention to detail. • A proficient English language capacity. • Excellent communication and leadership abilities. • A commitment to the principles of Open Access publishing and academic freedom. Desirable • Experience as an editor/proofreader. • Experience in a variety of academic contexts and/or countries. • Experience in writing successful funding application bids. • Knowledge of PKP platforms for OA publishing (OJS; OMP).
